Happiness is only real, when shared
I got reminded of this quote from 'Into the Wild' when I was sorting through my book collections to give away since they've served their purpose. I had some time to sit down and think of what this quote means to me, and found that to a certain extent, I agree with it.
Let's take learning about faith, for instance. I am always the most eager when I can learn about Islam with fellow friends who hold the same curiosity and interest in the All-Knowing. It makes me feel loved and cherished when they ask if I want to come to study groups, perhaps due to this idea that they are trying to extend their friendship with me beyond this life, to the one after.
I am also more attached to books when it is recommended by my loved ones, because I find joy in knowing that they trust me enough to have a peek at a portion of their thoughts that are reflected by their readings. I feel appreciated when they mention a book or two that I would love, it makes me wonder how many times I crossed their minds as they dive into all the other worlds these books offer.
Aside from this, there are so many others. The simple act of eating lunch, watching movies, traveling. I found that just like McCandless, the happiest I am is when I get to share what I love with the people I care about.
Tell me about you. What activities do you find all the more meaningful if it is shared?
